The impact of third-party payments on health care costs
University of Texas economist Craig Depken recently pointed out on his blog, Heavy Lifting, that The Joint Economic Committee has a great series of charts available on their website. Included among them are some excellent resources for those interested in health care policy. The chart above, for instance, offers a dramatic picture of the unsustainability of third party payments. Until consumers begin to behave as though they are spending their own money rather than someone else's, this trend will only worsen.
